Testimony of Rene'e (TX)         I believe my testimony began before I could even walk.  You see, I was one of those trash can babies; yes, my biological mother threw me in the dumpster.  If it had not been for the Grace of God I would not be here now, even though I was given back to my biological mother.  She eventually gave me to an elderly married couple when I was 9 months old and told them that I was their son’s, who was missing in action in Vietnam.  Years later the truth came out that I was not their son’s daughter.  By the Grace of God, they raised me.  They brought me up in church and kept me active in church.        As time went on, I ended up being a victim of rape at an early age while I was in the 11th grade.  A year later it happened again.  I found myself in terrible situations after graduating from high school.  I ended up being kidnapped 3 times and raped altogether 9 times within a 4 year period.  I had no place to go and all the people I trusted were the wrong people, including my own biological family.        I eventually came into the military.  I lost friends to the war, experienced sever sexual harassment, and was forced into leadership positions that frightened me beyond belief.  During those times, black women were labeled as lazy and always complaining, so I spent my entire military career hiding my fears and hiding the things that happened to me for well over 20 years.        I ended up marrying in my early 30’s and I started going back to church.  Though I always had a good heart, it wasn’t enough.  I tried to get my husband into church with me, yet I ended up going alone.  I know my marriage was not perfect, but I hid what was really going on.  I was manipulated into having sex with my husband hours after having major surgery.  And through the pain, I still hid how I was feeling and how it was affecting me.  And my husband ended up raping me.  Some people think a husband cannot rape his wife, but it happens.  Also, he was cheating and I was staying with him even though I knew.        One Sunday, a pastor told me sometimes God will put you through things in order to take you out of things.  I wasn’t strong enough to leave my marriage.  I wanted to fight to stay married, but something bigger than me saw something that wasn’t for me.  So, when we divorced, I felt as if a burden had been lifted.  I also ended up adopting a child.  He was 8 years old and is now 15.  All I ever wanted was to hear my child tell me, “Mommy, I love you.”        So, I truly believe after all I have been through, God took care of me.  Through all those experiences I was not supposed to be here.  My testimony is that after everything I still believe in God; through the assaults, the rapes, the abandonments,  and the ultimate betrayals which all lead to bigger trust issues.  I believe they got me where I am today.  My life is not perfect, but God has shown me how to be grateful for what I have and grateful for the life I was given.  Many years I cried silent tears and still do because sometimes the memories return unexpectedly.  The silent tears are there because for so long I hid what hurt.  So I am learning and trusting more in the word so I can cry happy tears.  I really have a lot to be happy about.  Look at my past; and this is just a little, but just enough to show why I love God so much.        I am now recently retired from the US Army and I have a son, a home, transportation, I direct drama (acting) in church (nothing but God), and most of all I have God in my life.  Where would I be had it not been for the Lord?  He guided me when I was lost.  He kept me safe throughout all I‘ve been through and when no one else cared and I was thrown away.  How could I not love God?  Look where I’ve been… nothing but God.

Letting GoMatthew 18: 21-35When someone hurts us it is easy to hold on to the offense and hold that person in debt. Our right to reparation becomes precious like diamonds. The Bible tells us to forgive as we are forgiven  and to forgive as often as we are forgiven. God is patient and continues to love us and forgive us even when we  don’t think we need it. If we truly have the mind of Christ, then we must be accustomed to letting go of our right to reparation.~Rhea Brown

The LegendJanuary 1969 the Jackson Five released “I Want You Back” to the nation.  Ever since then Michael Jackson has been topping charts and transcending the music industry.  He broke down racial barriers and paved the way for Black artists that followed.  In 1982 he produced the world’s biggest selling album of all time, Thriller.  Michael Jackson is both loved and respected all over the world.  He will forever be remembered and is worthy of the honor of being called a Legend.~Rhea Brown

The MarchNearly half a century has passed since civil rights activist Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired this nation to dream of racial equality. He led marches in pursuit of the dream. America elected Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States on November 4, 2008.  We each continue the march as we break down the barriers of discrimination and conquer new feats.  ~Rhea Brown

Love Is Not BlueSong of Solomon 8:6-7Solomon’s wife, the Shulamite, describes the strength and endurance of love.  It burns like the hottest flame and is more precious than the rarest gem.  With marriage comes trial and tribulation.  But if we trust God and surrender ourselves, that love will burn like a flame and become ever brighter as time passes.  ~Rhea Brown

TouchedMatthew 9:20-22The story of the woman with the issue of blood is a beautiful example of faith.  She had been sick for 12 years and even the doctors could not help her.  She was an outcast to her people and was forbidden to be touched. Yet when she saw Jesus, she pushed through a resistant crowd and had enough faith left to believe that if she just touched His garment she would be healed.  Having faith today can produce the same results.  ~Rhea Brown

Lion Of JudahRevelation 5:5Jesus is referred to as both the Slain Lamb and the Lion of Judah.  He is called the Lion of Judah in Revelation, when  the seals are loosed and the end of the world begins.  The Lion represents victory and might.  As believers, we should find comfort in this symbol.  However, we should also find a sense of urgency as witnesses to those around us.  ~Rhea Brown

Lost SheepLuke 15: 4-7The parable of the lost sheep shows the depth of God’s love for us.  Some of us choose to stray away for a time and live according to our own desires.  But no matter how far we stray or how long it takes us to realize that God’s plans are better than our own, He always welcomes home the lost sheep.  ~Rhea Brown

FreedomPsalm 91War can be vicious and agonizing.  It also makes evident the temporality of our existence.  It is important to trust God in these times, however, tomorrow is not promised in any circumstance.  We should take advantage of every second that we have and honor God with it.  ~Rhea Brown

ProvisionMark 10:15; 1Kings 17:1-7Jesus said that we should receive the kingdom as a child.  Little children are very trusting.  Elijah trusted God in this manner even when his circumstances were unfavorable.  Ravens, the least likely of any creature to be generous, fed him in the midst of a drought.  In any situation, we should trust God for provision and expect it to come even from the least likely of places.  ~Rhea Brown
